Teaching an Accounting Class

How would I handle teaching an accounting class? Having to cover 13 chapters, I know would be a challenge. First, I think that I would have a big test every 3 chapters, and probably would have a nice review before every test to make sure that the students understood the definitions and math problems. So when the midterm and final come around they would be more confident.
I would probably just give my class 3 or 4 group projects. I would use the 9 steps to accounting project that we used in Ms. Smith class as one of them. I would give the students the opportunity to read the chapter, and if they have any questions I would be willing to answer, but just in case they didnt read the chapter I would probably have a powerpoint to break the chapter down. Also, I would probably use the Wiley Plus interactive video during the class to help students write notes. My class time would be spent going over the chapters and going over important things in the study objectives, and give them different accounting problems to practice in class to help them prepare for the homework that would be due on the next class day. I probably would let my class do blog entries as well to get feedback on the class.
I think that it would be cool to give the class an extra credit project that relates to the student's filing their own taxes, and probably have them do research on problems with letting other people file their taxes.

Thoughts on Group Project (8-11)

How Has Participation in the Group Projects Impacted your Learning of Accounting?

I think that the group projects can be good for college. It is a great way to get to know your classmates and just get a feel of the real world, working with people. I normally do not care for group projects, but I do enjoy working with my team, and I feel that I have developed great friendships. I do think though that we have had too many group projects. The rush and demand makes me not completely understand all of the study objectives in the chapter .I sometimes miss important things in the chapter.
Being in a group, it gives you a lot of support and if you may not understand something you can ask around in the groups, but I would have liked to try other methods as well to see if it would have helped out with my troubles in accounting. Altogether, it was a new experience, and I am glad that my teammates has stuck together the whole semester and have completed the projects.

ch 5-7

The Chapters 5-7 were a lil rough for me. It is almost like accounting takes too much. I almost considered dropping the class. The high demand on completing a chapter in one week is difficult. Especially, having group projects and a quiz due every week. In ch. 5, it was good to see how companies use discountts in their stores, and the formulas they use such as, 2/10,n/30. Ch.6 was one of the harder chapters to me. Talking about the LiFO and FiFO. I was pushed for time so I had miss my Wiley plus assignments for those two chapters.
By Chapter 7, I had to make a decision do I want to stay in the class or not. Ch. 7 was an easy chapter, so it helped influence me to stay. I completed my Wiley Plus assignment for the week. Thanks for Mrs. Smith showing me how to get an interactive tutorial, and how to do the first problem. I understand a lot better on how to do cash budgets for a company. I had always been curious about fraud going on in business. Now I understand the Cash disumbersements Controls that Publix use, which I work for them.

Class Experience : First 2 weeks

The accounting experience to me has been really rough.  During these first couple of weeks, I have been so busy doing stuff: college applications, scholarships, homework, working two jobs, so during class instruction, I would be behind, and everything was very confusing to me. Plus, I wasn’t using my Wiley Plus account. These last few days, I have been on Wiley, and it has improved my understanding. It really made me understand my readings of chapter 3 and 4 because I did a lot of the tutorials.
This accounting class is important to me, for I am launching my own art collection and have plans of having my own clothing line one day.I have had 3 mentors suggest that I take this class because of my vision. Also, I work at Publix, and they often give us the company statements, and I receive a dividend cheack with them. I now have a better understand what is a dividend check.  From what I have learned in chapters 3 and 4, I get a bit more understanding of running a business, such as buying supplies, recording transactions, and journalizing everything. I think it is very important to be organize the way you learn in accounting.
